Kyle Aben MA, BBA, GHG-IQ, owns Carbon Realities Consulting. Along with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business and Regulatory Policy and a Master’s Degree focused on Global Environmental Policy, Kyle has also earned a Greenhouse Gas Inventory Quantification (GHG-IQ) certificate through the Canadian Standards Association in 2012.

Kyle has quantified emissions for companies of all sizes, universities, local governments, communities, a BC heritage site, a Canada Winter Games and has had millions of tonnes of carbon verified by third parties. Kyle has taught Carbon Accounting and Energy Management at the University of Northern British Columbia and at the former Quest University in Squamish. In addition to teaching, Kyle has gained experience working for organizations like the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions, The David Suzuki Foundation, and West Fraser Timber.

Kyle will be giving an overview of current carbon accounting methods. The discussion will review the steps to complete a full Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions quantification for an organization using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s corporate guidance.

These emissions quantifications are used by regulated companies but also by organizations seeking to improve their environmental and social governance (ESG) standings by reporting to the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) and by setting emission reduction targets through the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

The next ESG step for many of these organizations is to seek net-zero emissions status. Kyle will discuss the nuisances and process towards achieving net-zero and will contrast it to carbon neutrality.

Meet in person at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø Prince George Building 5 Room 154 (on the ground floor) or attend virtually via Zoom (email ldb@pgbeckett.ca for the link)
