Work, Sleep, Play: Biocultural perspectives on health risks
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, the long-term effects on people’s health and wellbeing are just beginning to emerge. This talk highlights the importance of using a mixed-method, biocultural lens to understand the ‘hidden risks’ faced by racialized populations during the 2020-2022 lockdowns in Peel Region, Ontario – and the lessons learned from our pandemic response.
Erica Kilius is a biological anthropologist whose research focuses on the roots of health inequities through both biocultural and public health perspectives. She uses mixed method approaches, integrating interview, survey, accelerometer, and environmental data to examine how health risks emerge and persist across our lifespans.
