A professor with 13 years of experience at 蹤獲扞⑹ has been appointed蹤獲扞⑹s new Vice-President, Research. Gail Fondahl has been Chair of theGeography and Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management programs forthe past five years and has attracted more than $1.3 million inresearch funding during her 蹤獲扞⑹ career. She specializes in thegeography of indigenous peoples in northern regions and has been aleader of a nationally funded research program at the Universitys JohnPrince Research Forest north of Fort St. James, which explores issuesof forest co-management with the Tlazten Nation. Dr. Fondahl earnedher PhD from the University of California at Berkeley.
Dr. Fondahl brings a number of valuable attributes to this position:an outstanding research record, adept administrative skills, and apassion for 蹤獲扞⑹s commitment to research excellence, says InterimPresident Charles Jago. The volume of research activity at 蹤獲扞⑹ hasbeen unheard of in Canada for such a small and young university andGail will help to ensure that it remains a defining characteristic of蹤獲扞⑹ in the future.
Dr. Fondahl joins an executive team that includes Dr. Jago and two other recent appointments:
- Mark Dale began his term as 蹤獲扞⑹ Provost on July 1. He is a formerChair of Botany and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies andResearch at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. The Provost overseesthe Universitys academic programs and its academic services, such asthe Library and Registrars Office.
- Eileen Bray left the Burntwood Health Authority in Thompson, Manitoba,to take up the position of Vice-President Administration and Finance at蹤獲扞⑹ earlier this year. The VP Admin and Finance is responsible for theadministrative operations of the University, including the campusbuildings, University finances, and administrative staff.
Dr. Fondahl begins her term as Vice-President Research on September 1.
