Biography
Dr. Richard Lazenby is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø. Dr. Lazenby is a Founding Faculty member of the University, arriving in 1994 and retiring in 2018. He received his doctorate in Biological Anthropology in 1992 from McMaster University. He is a past President of the (formerly Physical Anthropology). Dr. Lazenby practiced as a forensic anthropologist in British Columbia for over 4 decades, assisting the and the in the investigation of found human (and non-human) remains. He was co-lead with the Missing Women’s Task Force in the Pickton Farm investigation in 2002 to 2004. Dr. Lazenby is a Founding member of the Northern Medical Program at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø and currently serves as Course Director for the Flexible Enhanced Learning course.
Research and expertise
Dr. Lazenby’s primary area of study focused on the origin and evolution of human handedness through a comparative analysis of the geometric and microscopic structure of the hand skeleton (metacarpals) in recent and past human populations, non-human primates, and fossil hominins.
