Valued at $17,500.00 for one year, these awards are available to full-time students who are entering a Master’s or Doctoral program at the University of Northern British Columbia. Scholarships are provided by the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills (the Ministry) as a merit based scholarship to reward student excellence within research-intensive graduate programs. The BCGS is awarded to incoming graduate students by each Faculty.
Eligibility:
Students must be in a graduate level program and have completed between 0 - 12 months of studies by September 1 of each year. Students must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents. Students cannot have previously received a BC Graduate Scholarship or other Entrance Award from ÂÜÀòÉäÇø during their program.
Students must have the intention to enroll in a research-intensive graduate program with an emphasis, but not exclusive focus, on disciplines related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship and Design, Indigenous and regional programs.
Consideration is based on a Graduate Admission GPA of 3.67 or greater.
PhD SUPPORT SUPPLEMENT
The PhD Support Supplement Program has been re-envisioned, and beginning May 2025, this award will be awarded on admission by the Faculty. The award is valued at $10,000 for one year and provides a second year of funding to select students who received the BCGS or GERS in year 1 of their program.
New Eligibility Criteria:
These awards will be available to full-time PhD students with an overall GPA of 4.00 (or equivalent) or higher. Students must have received the BCGS or GERS in year 1 of their program.
Please note: The final PhD Support Supplement competition for eligible students admitted prior to or in September 2024 has already been held. This was the last competition for this award in its previous format. Future awards will be granted upon admission by the Faculty.
